Glenfeochan Estate Long Term Forest Plan

Large scale, mixed use woodland in Kilmore, Oban

Updates

Highfield Forestry Ltd is working with Glenfeochan Estate in continuing the management of 470ha woodland, including 230ha of productive conifers and 85ha of native broadleaves on the northern side of Glen Feochan and bordering Loch Nell.

Planning Permission to construct the new forest access road has been granted by Argyll and Bute Council. Operations are anticipated to begin in Spring 2025.

Anticipated Timeline

  • 1. Initial Preparation

    Early 2024

By considering the management objectives of the woodland, information available, and site sensitivities, we can prepare a Long Term Forest Plan Concept.

  • 2. Scoping

    Mid 2024 - 2025

By sharing our concept with relevant parties, we can continue to gather all the information we need so we can:

Identify key issues and explore desired outcomes.

    Share information.

Identify legal interests such as water supplies.

    Assess impact on local amenity.

  • 3. New Access Track Construction

    Mid 2025

Through close work with Argyll and Bute Council, construction of the new forest access track will take place.

This track will be the primary route that woodland management traffic will take, including timber transport vehicles.

  • 3. LTFP Drafting

    2025

Using all of the information we have gathered, we will then identify any additional surveys required, analyse the data we have, and put together a draft forest plan.

Scottish Forestry will ensure that the LTFP meets the UK Forestry Standard, addressing all issues highlighted in the scoping process.

  • 4. Public Consultation of LTFP

    Mid-Late 2025

Once Scottish Forestry are content that the LTFP meets UK Forestry Standard, they will then work with the local authorities and other statutory consultees over a 4 week consultation period and agree any changes required for approval.

  • 5. LTFP Approval

Scottish Forestry will then approve the Forest Plan and issue a 10 year felling licence. The plan will then be available for public viewing.
