Services

Highfield Forestry is an established company providing a comprehensive range of professional services connected to all forms of woodland management, trees and rural property. Our customers include individuals (both in the UK and overseas), farms and estates, forestry partnerships, charities, private sector companies and more.

  • Modern Forest Management has moved far beyond timber production. Sustainable forests should also meet conservation, recreation, and landscape objectives. Each owner has their own expectations and our role is to identify those and to build a plan that matches the client’s vision whilst fulfilling all regulations and standards. Our professional planning process uses the combination of traditional methods like site surveys with new technologies like GPS, GIS and aerial photography. This ensures that all of the issues are addressed appropriately and the potential of the woodland is fully explored.

If you would like to know more about our woodland management services, please contact us through email, phone, website or Facebook page.

  • If you considering planting new woodland we can guide you through the whole process including applying for grant support, organising works, delivering your project, maintenance works and securing additional income through the sale of carbon units that your woodland will sequester.

  • Highfield Forestry is able to provide a comprehensive contracting service to farmers, woodland owners, estate owners, local authorities, government and non-government organisations.

  • The Woodland Carbon Code is a voluntary standard, initiated in July 2011, for woodland creation projects that make claims about the carbon they lock up.

Carbon dioxide, CO2, is the most common of the greenhouse gases, which are changing the earth’s climate through atmospheric warming. Growing trees sequester (absorb, take out of the atmosphere) CO2 and use carbon atoms to form wood while emitting oxygen back into the atmosphere. The amounts of CO2 removed from the atmosphere by the growing trees are measurable and are defined as Woodland Carbon Units (WCUs).

Each individual Woodland Carbon Code project goes through a complex process of registration, assessment and validation to reach the stage where the WCUs can be placed on the market to attract companies needing to compensate for their greenhouse gas emissions.

Highfield Forestry Ltd has a track record of fully completed projects which brought extra income for the owners of recently planted new woodlands.

  • The UK Woodland Assurance Standard is an independent certification standard for verifying sustainable woodland management in the United Kingdom. It provides the owners with an internationally recognised stamp of approval, which can deliver premium timber prices.

The version of the UKWAS standard currently adopted by each scheme is UKWAS version 4.0 effective from 1 April 2018.

  • Highfield Forestry has an excellent track record of securing funding for a variety of forestry projects through the Forestry Grant Scheme (FGS).

Larger projects include Woodland Creation and Forest Design Plans.

Other supplementary grants include restocking and infrastructure.

If you are interested in funding available for your existing or potential woodland, please contact us.

  • The aim of the Woodland Creation Grant is to support the creation of new woodland that will bring economic, environmental and social benefits.

    These benefits include:

    • Meeting the targets to increase woodland cover

    • Helping mitigate climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions through carbon sequestration

    • Restoration of 'lost' habitats through developing forest habitat networks

    • Supporting a sustainable forest industry by providing a reliable timber supply

    • Protecting soil and water

    • Providing community benefits through public access

    • Enhancing urban areas and improving landscapes

    • Supporting rural development through local businesses and farm diversification

The grant support for Woodland Creation has nine options.

There is an initial planting payment and an annual maintenance payment for five years.

  • A Forest Plan is a requirement for grant funding in many cases. Highfield Forestry undertakes all aspects of the planning process, which ultimately ensures all social and economic factors are taken into account. The process includes:-

    • Outlining the woodland owners management objectives

    • Identifying physical site constraints

    • Consulting with the relevant stakeholders

    • Survey and mapping of forest elements

    • Creation of a robust design plan

    • Production forecasting
